SEJ Heritage Center

Why are we here?

Our mission is to preserve and keep alive the stories of the remarkable persons, places and events that make up our unique history as United Methodists in the nine states that comprise the Southeastern Jurisdiction (SEJ).

What do we have?

Our museum features exhibits depicting the history of the United Methodist Church and its antecedents with special emphasis on the SEJ.The library contains published works related to the history of Methodism and its people in the Jurisdiction. The archives include records documenting the history of Lake Junaluska Assembly and the committees and agencies of the SEJ, conference journals, local church histories and biographical information on clergy and other prominent individuals. We acquire a limited number of manuscript collections, such as the papers of Harry Denman, founder of the Foundation for Evangelism, which is headquartered at Lake Junaluska.

How can we help?

The Heritage Center provides research assistance for those who cannot visit the Center. We also offer guided tours of the museum, hands-on activities for Confirmation classes and other groups and training for persons who are responsible for maintaining their annual conference or local church archives.
