LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. – Beginning this June, visitors to Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center will receive a free copy of a Devotional Guide that features artwork by famed United Kingdom artist John Hurst. Sponsored by the efforts of the Upper Room, The Foundation for Evangelism, Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center, and Art Swarthout, the Devotional Guide contains readings that are themed to different locations at Lake Junaluska. Each reading corresponds directly to paintings of the lake by Hurst, along with reflections from the artist himself about his efforts to capture the essence of Lake Junaluska.
“This devotional guide provides words to challenge the mind and heart. We hope that the artwork, scriptures, and testimonies in this devotional guide will help persons to fully experience the beauty and ministry that Lake Junaluska offers. We are thankful that John Hurst allowed us to share his artwork of Lake Junaluska with others,” said Jimmy L. Carr, Executive Director of Lake Junaluska.
Along with Hurst’s artwork and reflections, the devotional guide includes scriptures that are related to scenery or a specific location around the lake. The Upper Room provided the personal reflections and testimonies from seven individuals scattered across the world from various locations throughout the United States to Benoni, South Africa, to accompany the scriptures and artwork.
“The hope is that during their time here at Lake Junaluska, visitors will use this guide each day to spend time in the presence of God and in prayer,” commented Jack Ewing, Executive Director of The Foundation for Evangelism.
John Hurst was invited to submit paintings to be made available as prints and to form the substance of a devotional book designed to enhance the experience of visitors to Lake Junaluska. “It was with a sense of great joy and Christian fellowship that I accepted this invitation, resulting in the images that lie within this book,” said Hurst.
Prints of Hurst’s artwork may be purchased at the Lake Junaluska Gift Shops located in the Terrace Hotel and Bethea Welcome Center.
