For the past 55 years, the faithful leadership of Dr. Glenn Draper has driven the Junaluska Singers to spread the gospel through music. Glenn first came to Junaluska in 1954 and has been with Lake Junaluska every summer since. Lounelle, Glenn’s wife, has spent endless hours supporting the ministry of the Junaluska Singers as the costumer and administrative assistant for her husband’s choral groups. Glenn and Lounelle have and continue to be ambassadors of Lake Junaluska. Lake Junaluska is deeply indebted to the Drapers for their unwavering ministry and efforts with the Junaluska Singers to spread the Gospel through music. The Glenn & Lounelle Draper Endowment for Music Ministries is a permanent fund created to honor Glenn and his wife, Lounelle. The money donated to the Glenn & Lounelle Draper Endowment for Music Ministries will support the ministry of the Junaluska Singers.
The Junaluska Singers has inspired thousands with their concerts at Lake Junaluska and throughout the Southeast. For many of us, the Lake Junaluska experience is made complete by the beautiful music coming from Stuart Auditorium on a cool summer evening by the lake.
The Junaluska Singers have blessed us with their voices in a variety of settings, from Christmas Concerts to Independence Day Concerts, and from worship services to conferences. We have been touched by the soft sounds of sweet gospel music, inspired by majestic hymns, and stirred by patriotic music on the Fourth of July. We have been filled with Christian conviction by songs of the Cross.
We foresee that the need for a strong program in music ministries will continue to grow in the future. Music is a fundamental part of church life. It guides our worship and gives voice to our faith. It teaches us and binds us to Christians who came before us, and it gives us pleasure and unites us in fellowship with one another. Moreover, our musical heritage is rich and diverse. It reflects centuries of Christian thought and spans a wide range of cultural and ethnic traditions in traditional and contemporary styles.
We will always need talented and committed individuals like the Drapers who will lead our church as we utilize music to make disciples for Jesus Christ. The Glenn and Lounelle Draper Endowment for Music Ministries will ensure the continuation of the Junaluska Singers and their ministry.
We are pleased that the Glenn & Lounelle Draper Endowment for Music Ministries will allow us to honor the Drapers in a permanent and far-reaching way; and we are proud that their names, which stand for devoted Christian discipleship through music, always will be at the forefront of music ministries at Lake Junaluska.
