Claire Boling, 22, joins the Junaluska Singers from Brentwood, TN. She is the daughter of Anne and Ronnie Boiling of Brentwood, TN. She has just received her Bachelor of Music in vocal performance at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville this past May. Recently she has performed Donna Anna (
Don Giovanni), Greta Fiorentino (
Street Scene) Mrs. Grose (
Turn of the Screw), Mrs. Nordstrom (
A Little Night Music), and covered Despina (
Cosi Fan Tutte). Also among her roles are Audrey (
Little Shop of Horrors) and Esther (
Meet Me in St Louis) and the Gypsy in UT’s
La Traviata. Among her concert work, Claire has performed as the soprano soloist in both Handel's
Dettigen Te Deum and the
Messiah. She has also performed Schubert’s
Mass in G with the UT Concert Choir at Carnegie Hall. In addition to being a four-time winner of the NATS competition in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009, Claire was also the sole-winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council’s Encouragement Award in the Mid-south District.
At UTK, Claire was a Grace Moore Scholar, University Scholar, Acuff Choral Scholar, UT Ambassador Scholar and an active member of Chamber Singers and the Dean’s Student Advisory Council for Arts and Sciences. She is also an alumna of Sigma Alpha Iota, Gamma Rho and served as the Ushering and All-Sing chairs. Also during her stint at UT, Claire has participated in UT Concert Choir, Student Senate, and 2 different Student Government Campaigns. Claire has been awarded an assistantship at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where she will enter this fall as a first year Masters student in Voice Performance and Literature. This is her third year with the Junaluska Singers. Claire attends First Baptist Church, Nashville.
