LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. – Starting September 15, Mrs. Tammy McDowell will take on her new role as the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director at Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center. McDowell has worked for Lake Junaluska since 2002, serving most recently as the Administrative Assistant to the Ministry with Young People's office.
"Tammy has been an excellent employee for Lake Junaluska," said Jimmy L. Carr, Executive Director of Lake Junaluska. "She has wonderful skills and is a great provider of Christian hospitality with everyone in which she comes into contact."
Mrs. McDowell is currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Montreat College. She is a member of Harris Chapel AME Zion Church in Canton where she has served as Church Secretary for 10 years and is involved in the local community as the Chair of the Haywood County Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee that holds an annual prayer breakfast at Lake Junaluska.
McDowell will fill the position formerly held by Mrs. Susan Dolata, who will celebrate her retirement September 14. Mrs. Dolata has served as Executive Assistant to Lake Junaluska for the past eight years.
“We appreciate Susan’s eight years of service at Lake Junaluska,” commented Carr. “Susan was gracious in coming out of retirement to assist us as an interim for several months before becoming full time. She has done an exceptional job in her position relating to Board members, Staff and the Lake Junaluska Community. She will be missed.”
McDowell will serve as Executive Assistant to Lake Junaluska’s current Executive Director, Jimmy L. Carr, and will be instrumental in assisting with the transition for Lake Junaluska’s future Executive Director upon Carr’s retirement.
“I am excited about and grateful for this opportunity,” said McDowell. “I have enjoyed working with the Ministry team at Lake Junaluska, and I look forward to the challenges and change of pace that accompanies this new position. It is an honor to be able to work more closely with the Lake Junaluska CRC team, the Board of Directors, and the people who live here at the Lake.”
