Melodie G. Galloway holds the Master’s degree from
Florida State University in Vocal Performance and the Doctor of Musical Arts
degree in conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her
experience as a conductor and soprano soloist includes opera, music theatre,
and a professional vocal ensemble, where she has been a soloist in Russia, Estonia,
Ireland, England, Spain, as well as extensively throughout the United States.
Currently Dr. Galloway is an Assistant Professor in
music at the University of North Carolina – Asheville, where she is the
Director of Choral and Vocal Studies. Among the multiple choirs she leads, the
UNCA Chamber Singers, an auditioned advanced ensemble has performed under her
direction for the Holiday Open House Celebrations at the White House and for
the Wounded Warriors at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Hospital for the past
five seasons (2007-2011).
Dr. Galloway is the Director of the Lake Junaluska
Singers, a 16-voice, professional ensemble that serves as the Ambassador choir
for the Southeastern United Methodist Jurisdiction. Under Galloway’s direction
since 2010, the Singers have been invited to sing for the United Methodist
General Conference in Tampa, FL, May 2012, National ACDA, Dallas, March 2013,
and recorded 2 professional CDs and 2 DVDs in a multi-camera studio in Orlando,
FL. Executive Director, Dr. Jack Ewing, says “The Singers have a phenomenal
sound with pure, close harmonies, that truly set them apart as a vocal group - they bring tears every time I hear them
sing, and I wouldn’t miss a performance.”
In
2011, Dr. Galloway was appointed the Musical Director/Conductor for the
Asheville Choral Society. This large choir is made up of 118 auditioned singers
from around the Asheville region. The chorus performs four major concerts each
season, presenting major works and modern, contemporary choral compositions,
often with full symphonic orchestra and professional soloists. The Asheville
Choral Society is widely recognized for its eclectic repertoire and beautiful

Dr. Galloway is in demand as a
clinician and conference contributor in fields of choral repertoire and
technique, musical theatre and jazz. As an invited speaker in March, 2007,
Galloway gave Coloring Outside the Lines:
Conflicts
and Resolutions in Dave Brubeck’s “Jazzy” Mass presented as part of the Leeds College of Music
International Jazz Conference “Jazz: Inside and Outside.”
