The Rev. Dr. Carl Arrington, Director of African-American Ministries at Lake Junaluska, now has another important role: coordinator of Social Justice and Ethnic Ministries. Beginning January 2011, Arrington assumed his new responsibilities in addition to his current duties, which includes guiding the development of ongoing and new Lake Junaluska Ministry events that explore a wide range of social justice topics.
"Dr. Arrington's passion for ministry, his gifts and skills are respected and celebrated across the United Methodist connection," commented Rev. Roger Dowdy, director of Lake Junaluska Ministry. "I am excited that Carl will be developing emerging and new event initiatives offered by Lake Junaluska Ministry around imporant social justice topics, and working with ethnic leaders, staff, and resource persons to offer learning experiences which will challenge and engage United Methodists and the broader global-ethnic religious community."
As Social Justice and Ethnic Ministries coordinator, Arrington will further the coordination and development of related Ethnic Ministry events, including African-American, Native American, and Hispanic-Latino events.
"This is an exciting transitional and growth period for Lake Junaluska's Social Justice and Ethnic Ministries," explained Dr. Arrington. "We plan to address the needs of those we serve with new programming, particularly for the Hispanic-Latino community."
As coordinator, Arrington will provide support for event staff of all ethcnic ministry initiatives, as well as event coordination during the transition period for SEJANAM as Lake Junaluska and the SEJANAM Council review their leadership needs and search for a new director. His support and guidance for SEJANAM, social justice, and ethnic ministry initiatives will assure that those events flourish and grow. Moving into the future, he will continue to collaborate with each area's advisory teams to address the needs of each ministry.
