Lake Junaluska, NC - Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center’s ART & SOUL initiative presented its inaugural event Saturday and Sunday, November 15-16. The November paint-out en plein air [Fr, out of doors] attracted eleven regional artists to the campus for two days of painting and photography. The general public - enjoying the gorgeous weather and walking around the Lake’s 2.5-mile walking trail – encountered the artists at work and engaged them in conversation.
The event included an Artists Dinner on Saturday evening, followed by a PowerPoint presentation by noted artist Luke Allsbrook.
The Paint-Out concluded with an informal reception, gallery show and sale of the works created in less than twenty-four hours. Several pieces were purchased and a portion of the Artists’ proceeds go to support the development of the ART & SOUL initiative.
An ART & SOUL gallery has been created in the main lobby of the Terrace Hotel. The current exhibit will remain through March 2010 and the works on display will be for sale by contacting the individual artists. The sale of art pieces will continue to benefit ART & SOUL. A listing of the pieces and the participating 2009 artists can be found at www.lakejunaluska.com/plein-air-2009.aspx. Lake Junaluska will host its second Plein Air Event in May 2010.
