During the 2013 Lake Junaluska Centennial Celebration opening presentation April 18, 2013, renowned storyteller Donald Davis will perform in Stuart Auditorium.

Born in Southern Appalachia, Davis has told stories all his life."I didn't learn stories, I just absorbed them," he says as he recounts tales and more tales learned from a family of traditional storytellers who have lived on the same Western North Carolina land since 1781.

“My family has lived in Haywood County since way before it was Haywood County,” Davis explains. “My dad and his brothers and sisters were all at the opening ceremony at Lake Junaluska in 1913, so I have a lot of history with Lake Junaluska.”

Davis is a graduate of Duke Divinity School, a retired Methodist Minister, and a former Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the National Storytellers Association. He has been a featured teller at the Smithsonian Institution, the World's Fair, and at festivals and concerts throughout the United States and the World.  He is also a prolific author and producer of books and tapes of his works.
