LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C – The Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center will conclude its 2011 Summer Worship Series, “The World is My Parish,” on Aug. 14 with guest preacher, scholar, and author. The Rev. Dr. Leonard Sweet, E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Drew Theological School in Madison, New Jersey. Sweet will preach on Matthew 26:17-30 with a sermon titled, “The Greatest Song Ever Sung.”
“We are excited to host the prolific and visionary Leonard Sweet for our last Sunday of our Summer Worship Series,” said Dr. Jack Ewing, Executive Director of Lake Junaluska.
Leonard Sweet, Ph.D., is founder and president of SpiritVenture Ministries and serves as the E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Drew Theological School in Madison, New Jersey. He also serves as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon, and is the chief writer for preachingplus.com, a popular resource for pastors and Christian speakers. A popular speaker, Sweet has written more than twenty books, including the trilogy AquaChurch, SoulTsunami, and SoulSalsa. A member of the West Virginia Annual Conference, he also serves as a consultant to many of America's denominational leaders and agencies.
This worship service is also the closing service for the “Gathering of the Laity,” a spiritual retreat weekend for the Western North Carolina Laity. Also partnering with the Western North Carolina Laity and Lake Junaluska Ministry Events to host this special worship service are the Southeastern Jurisdiction and the Association of Older Adults. Prior to his Sunday morning service, Dr. Sweet will provide leadership for the “NUDGE Evangelism Leadership” event on August 11-12 at the Lake.
