LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C – The Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center will continue its 2011 Summer Worship Series, “The World is My Parish,” on Aug. 7 with The Rev. Shane Bishop, lead pastor of Christ Church in Fairview Heights, Illinois and the 2010 Distinguished Evangelist of the United Methodist Church named annually by the Foundation for Evangelism.
“Shane Bishop brings with him strengths of vision casting, preaching, passion, soul winning and leadership,” said Dr. Jack Ewing, Executive Director of Lake Junaluska. “His leadership at Christ Church in southern Illinois demonstrates one of the growing and vibrant examples of the church in the world becoming the hands and feet of Christ – engaging people with the Gospel at their points of greatest need.”
A former history teacher and coach, Bishop is an ordained elder in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference graduating from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He was named the Distinguished Evangelist of the United Methodist Church by the Foundation for Evangelism in 2010. Elected in 2000, 2004 and 2008 to represent the Illinois Great Rivers Conference at General and Jurisdictional Conferences, Bishop is a member of the Jurisdictional Episcopacy Committee.
This worship service is a partnership with the Foundation for Evangelism and Lake Junaluska Ministry Events and concludes a two-day workshop lead by Bishop on “Navigating Change: Younger Clergy Leadership Dialogue,” a fast-paced discussion focusing on 21st century church growth and evangelism.
