The Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center begins its 2012 Summer Worship Series on Sunday, June 17, 2012. Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins will preach on that morning as our Summer Series begins. The theme for the 2012 Summer Worship Series is the passage from Micah 6:8: “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.”
On June 17, Dr. Watkins sermon will be “Which of These?” based on the story of the Good Samaritan. Dr. Watkins, who preached at the National Prayer Service in DC the day after the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, will reflect on this familiar story calling attention to the expanded neighborhood that Jesus describes. Dr. Watkins is the General Minister and President of the Christian church, Disciples of Christ and has been described as an inspirational preacher and teacher in a variety of religious and ecumenical settings. The Ward Preaching Endowment supports Dr. Watkins’ participation in the 2012 Lake Junaluska Summer Worship Series.
Each week, three worship services are planned as part of the Summer Worship Series: a service of Word and Table at 8:30 a.m. in Memorial Chapel, a Praise and Prayer Service at the Lake Junaluska Cross Amphitheater at 9:30 a.m., and at 10:45 a.m., Morning Worship at Stuart Auditorium featuring a variety of well-known preachers from across the country. The Lake Junaluska Singers provide special music during the 10:45 service at Stuart.
