Leadership: Shifting From Management to Mission:
The
world is in constant change but our need for God is not. Ministry in a changed,
and constantly changing, mission field requires learning new ways rather than
getting better at old ways. Being efficient at what we do is not the same as
learning to be effective at what the mission field needs.
To make these distinctions requires us to look again at the changed
mission field and culture that surrounds us. However, living in a shared global
world that is increasingly complex and diverse while also in a specific local
world that is unique to the individual church that it surrounds means that there
are no "standard answers" anymore. In such a setting leadership must start with
learning rather than doing. Our time together will explore some of the
fundamentals of the change that we are facing and will pay particular attention
to leadership of our congregations. Understanding the nature of systems, the
need for clear outcomes, and the leadership role of conversations as a tool of
discernment will be the primary focus of our learning.
