LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. – For over 30 years, Dr. William Friday, former UNC president, has hosted entertainers, athletes, writers, politicians, educators and other newsmakers on his 30-minute UNC-TV series, “North Carolina People.”
Recently, Haywood County resident and Chair of the Lake Junaluska Peace Conference Committee Garland Young along with United Methodist Bishop Ken Carder were interviewed by Friday for his television series.
Dr. Friday, Young and Carder discussed the upcoming Lake Junaluska Peace Conference, which focuses on Peace for the World’s Children. Almost 200 persons will participate in this event, including children, youth, and adults.
The Lake Junaluska Peace Conference features Dr. Marian Wright Edleman, the President and founder of the Children’s Defense Fund, along with Dr. Jeni Stepanek, a noted advocate for children’s and families’ needs in health and education, Bishop Carder, and Dr. Luther E. Smith of the Candler School of Theology, Emory University.
“During our interview, Dr. Friday expressed the significance of this year’s theme, as well as how fortunate we are to have someone of Dr. Marian Wright Edelman’s stature as the Peace Conference keynote speaker,” commented Young. “We look forward to the insight and experiences each of this year’s Peace Conference speakers bring to the discussion of peace for the world’s children.”
UNC-TV will air the interview with Garland Young and Bishop Carder on Friday, September 10, at 9:00 p.m., with an encore presentation Sunday, September 12, at 5:30 p.m.
