Youth in Missions is a missions conference with camp experiences and hands-on mission opportunities! Youth in Missions is a ministry of the United Methodist Church’s Southeastern Jurisdictional Ministry with Young People. The Design Team is made up of students, young adults and adults who feel called to serve in missions. Churches and denominations of all persuasions are welcomed to join us as we serve in the world!
Each youth group has a one day mission project where we match your group’s skills and preferences with the projects available. We will e-mail you a preference sheet where you will rank your top three choices for projects. This year the mission projects will take place on Wednesday! We also are planning a camp-wide outreach project. In the past we have had a potato drop through St. Andrews gleaning program, a massive food drive and a children’s festival. More information will follow the beginning of March on this year’s project!
Youth in Missions’ intention is to offer students 12 – 24 years of age an opportunity to explore missions and outreach in a new way. Youth in Missions helps students realize that missions is a way of life, not just a once a year trip. Students will hear from people who are serving hands-on in mission and outreach locally and internationally. This year, through the City of Opportunity, students can speak one-on-one with organizations in mission and outreach, and they can also experience ways these ministries work.
We will kick off the event on Sunday, July 4 at 7:00 PM! On Monday, July 5, and Tuesday, July 6, we will offer seminars led by the various speakers. Bible Study will be led each morning by Rev. Lisa Yebuah who currently serves in North Carolina. She is a graduate of Duke Divinity School and Wofford College. Lisa is an incredible communicator, and you will be inspired by her messages. The evening speakers will be Bart Campolo and Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, who is one of the founders of the Rutba House in Durham, North Carolina. The Rutba House is an intentional community and part of the new monasticism movement. This year, Youth in Missions will also be offering leadership seminars focused on the theme of Racial Reconciliation. The praise and worship experiences will be led by Eddie Willis and The Narrow Path. Eddie is the Wesley Foundation Director at Delta State University.
Other organizations and ministries joining us this summer will be the Raining Season, an organization dealing with the orphan and poverty crisis in Sierra Leone, as well as Amanda and Caleb Earnest, missionaries teaching in Kabul, Afghanistan.
