Come celebrate Easter at Lake Junaluska and join us for the annual Friends of the Lake 5K Road Race, Walk & Kids Fun Run. The race is part of Lake Junaluska's Saturday Easter celebration.
The Friends of the Lake 5K Road Race, Walk & Kids Fun Run is a charitable event to support the recreation opportunities of Lake Junaluska through the Friends of the Lake program. All profits from this event go to the annual maintenance and improvement of the recreation areas at Lake Junaluska which annually costs over $250,000. Gifts to the Friends of the Lake help Lake Junaluska continue to be a beloved place where the community can enjoy the walking trail, gardens and breathtaking vistas.
Where: Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center - Nanci Weldon Memorial Gym
When: Saturday, March 31, 2018.
By pre-registering by March 16, you will receive a lower registration fee and a free Friends of the Lake t-shirt. Registration will also be open on race day from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at the Nanci Weldon Open Air Gym.
Early registration (until March 16, 2018): $25 (with Friends of the Lake t-shirt)
Registration (March 17-31, 2018): $30
Students (18 & younger): $15
These fees apply to the 5K Road Race and Walk. The Kids Fun Run is free and open to kids ages 10 and under. Registration fees can be paid by cash, check or credit card. Checks should be made payable to Lake Junaluska Assembly.
Awards: The awards ceremony commences upon conclusion of the race. Awards will be given to the top three male and female winners in each age category.

T-shirts will be given to those who pre-register by March 16, 2018.
What is the course like?
The 5K Road Race & Walk will begin and end at the Nanci Weldon Memorial Gym, which is located behind the Bethea Welcome Center. Click here to see a map of the course. The Kids Fun Run will begin at the start line near the gym, run to the intersection of Weldon Way and Lakeshore Drive, and return to the start line.
Will the course be marked?
Yes. The course for the 5K & Walk will be the same course and it will be marked with chalk, cones, etc. You will begin and end at the Nanci Weldon Memorial Gym. Most of the course will follow the walking path around the lake.
Will there be awards for the winners?
Yes. Awards will be given to the top three male and female winners in each age category. Those categories are broken down into approximately 5-year ranges (see registration form for specific age groups).
Can I bring my dog?
No. For everyone’s safety, we ask that you please do not bring your dog.
Can I bring a stroller for my child?
Strollers will be allowed for those participating in the Walk ONLY. For the safety of those running, we ask that you please do not bring strollers for the 5K Race.
Can I bring my bicycle?
No. For everyone’s safety, we ask that you please do not bring your bicycle.
What is the registration fee being used for?
This year’s 5K Run & Walk is a charitable event to support Lake Junaluska. All profits from this event will go towards the annual maintenance and improvements of the recreation areas at Lake Junaluska.
