Ski at Cataloochee Winter Youth Retreats

Cataloochee Ski Area

Cataloochee Ski Area is our local ski resort, located only 30 minutes from Lake Junaluska. A great relationship with Cataloochee has provided Lake Junaluska groups preferred parking and arrival times to help get everyone outfitted with gear and on the slopes before the mountain opens to the public. Cataloochee is an approachable ski area for all skill levels, providing 18 runs ranging from beginner to expert. Lake Junaluska's ski packages for groups include your ski/snowboard and boot rentals, lift ticket and a lesson at Cataloochee. Even if you have never skied or snowboarded before, Cataloochee's instructors will teach you everything you need to know to feel at home on the mountain. We are excited to continue our partnership with Cataloochee for a great ski experience! See the snow report.

New Year's Eve Party

Celebrate and meaningfully enter the new year at Lake Junaluska's first Winter Youth Retreat for 2021-22! Our retreat coming up Dec. 30, 2021-Jan. 2, 2022 will feature programs centered on the theme "Be Brave," opportunities to ski and do mission work, and a New Year's Eve celebration! We'll spend moments in prayer and have fun with a pizza party, music, crafts, photo booth and games from cornhole, Jenga and ring toss to trivia and Family Feud-style contests.

"It's going to be a great opportunity to gather again as youth groups and as a community to ring in 2022 as one body of Christ," said Wilson Booth, director of youth programming at Lake Junaluska.

FAQ

What are your COVID-19 health and safety protocols?
Lake Junaluska has been taking extensive measures past the suggestions of the CDC to ensure safe and healthy stays at all of our lodging facilities. Please see our current health and safety protocols for more information on how all of the Lake Junaluska staff is maintaining a high standard of sanitation in all Lake Junaluska facilities.

Are snowboard rentals included in the ski package?
Yes. The ski package includes either a set of skis or a snowboard, fitted boots, your lift ticket, and a lesson. Each person can choose whether they would like to ski or snowboard, and Cataloochee allows for one switch between skiing and snowboarding during your time on the mountain, so feel free to try something new! Helmets can be rented for an additional fee.

Does Lake Junaluska provide transportation to Cataloochee, mission sites or any off-site destination?
No. Groups are responsible for off-site transportation.

Are there date restrictions for my group to ski through Lake Junaluska?
No. Groups are encouraged to come on the dates that work best for you! We do invite you to come to Lake Junaluska during one of our programmed events with a New Year's party or a speaker and band, and join us in worship!

When will workshops happen during our retreat?
You can choose which day of your retreat you would like to spend in workshops, and our program staff will set everything up for you! We do suggest having your workshop day before you ski or pair your mission and workshop day together.

What are the mission work projects?
Lake Junaluska will be partnering with local organizations to serve our neighbors here in Haywood and Jackson counties. Some mission projects in Haywood County will help address the needs of a community in which hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed, and families displaced due to flooding in August 2021 from Tropical Storm Fred.
