Cataloochee Ski Area is our local ski resort, located only 30 minutes from Lake Junaluska. A great relationship with Cataloochee has provided Lake Junaluska groups preferred parking and arrival times to help get everyone outfitted with gear and on the slopes before the mountain opens to the public. Cataloochee is an approachable ski area for all skill levels, providing 18 runs ranging from beginner to expert. Lake Junaluska's ski packages for groups include your ski/snowboard and boot rentals, lift ticket and a lesson at Cataloochee. Even if you have never skied or snowboarded before, Cataloochee's instructors will teach you everything you need to know to feel at home on the mountain. You'll also find many enhancements at Cataloochee this year for your convenience, health and safety. We are excited to continue our partnership with Cataloochee for a great ski experience! See the snow report.
What are your COVID-19 health and safety protocols?
Lake Junaluska has been taking extensive measures past the suggestions of the CDC to ensure safe and healthy stays at all of our lodging facilities. Please see our current health and safety protocols for more information on how all of the Lake Junaluska staff is maintaining a high standard of sanitation in all Lake Junaluska facilities. Cataloochee Ski Area is also taking extra precautions and following "Ski Well Be Well (PDF)" guidelines.
Are snowboard rentals included in the ski package?
Yes. The ski package includes either a set of skis or a snowboard, fitted boots, your lift ticket, and a lesson. Each person can choose whether they would like to ski or snowboard, and Cataloochee allows for one switch between skiing and snowboarding during your time on the mountain, so feel free to try something new! Helmets can be rented for an additional fee.
Does Lake Junaluska provide transportation to Cataloochee, mission sites or any off-site destination?
No. Groups are responsible for off-site transportation.
Are there restricted dates for my group to add guided programming and music?
No. Our program staff will be able to meet you on your group's retreat dates. We will have staff ready to lead your group's devotions and provide worship music whether you come during the week or over a weekend. We are excited to worship with you!
When will workshops happen during our retreat?
You can choose which day of your retreat you would like to spend in workshops, and our program staff will set everything up for you! We do suggest having your workshop day before you ski or pair your mission and workshop day together.
What are the mission work projects?
We partner with Asheville Youth Mission to pair youth groups with mission sites. Mission sites tend to be food pantries, local churches, community shelters, thrift stores and environmental care groups.
