The Holidays at Lake Junaluska

November 20, 2020 - January 10, 2021

Let the nostalgic charm of Appalachian hospitality warm you this holiday season at Lake Junaluska. During our 7-week celebration, get in the spirit with Christmas decorations throughout our lakeside village with lights, garlands and wreaths. Located near Maggie Valley and Waynesville, our peaceful lakeside village is a short drive from Asheville and Biltmore. Come for a peaceful getaway or plan a special family gathering on Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas week and New Year’s Eve.

While this year will look a little different due to COVID-19 precautions, we will offer plenty of ways to celebrate the season with your family. Big events, such as Appalachian Christmas, will not return in 2020. However, we will add more intimate experiences to enjoy throughout the season.

We will certainly not cut back on decorating! Once again, more than 70 volunteers from the Lake Junaluska community will come together to decorate dozens of areas around the lake and the extensive displays inside the historic Lambuth Inn.

Why Stay on the Lake?

  • The Terrace is one of the few lakeside hotels in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Winner of the TripAdvisor 2020 Travelers' Choice Award, The Terrace is ranked in the Top 10 Percent of hotels worldwide. Rates include breakfast and access to many lakeside amenities. Relax by the fire in the beautifully decorated lobby. Read more about The Terrace. Check availability & book online now. (Tip: Find lowest rates midweek, Sunday-Thursday nights).
  • The extra festive historic Lambuth Inn sits high on a hill above the lake with a "national park lodge" feel. Recent renovations added modern guest comforts while preserving the charm of the beloved landmark since 1921. It’s especially popular at Christmas with its elaborate decorations. Adjacent is Inspiration Point with the best views overlooking the lake and Great Smoky Mountains. Read more about Lambuth Inn. Check availability & book online now.  (Tip: Find lowest rates Sunday-Thursday.)
  • Dine at The Terrace Bistro, open Wednesday-Sunday. On Thanksgiving Day, the Bistro closes to the public to serve a family-style feast to package guests staying at The Terrace. Read about the special package.
  • Browse Junaluska Gifts & Grounds for unique gifts including jewelry, local pottery, greeting cards, apparel, and books. Warm up with one of our festive coffee drinks such as the gingerbread cookie latte or chocolate covered cherry latte (a guest favorite!) Treat yourself by taking home coffees, preserves, salsas and salad dressings, as well as a collectible ornament of Lake Junaluska.
  • Listen to the Carillon bells ring out Christmas favorites as you reflect by the lake.
  • Walk the 3.8-mile lakeside trail to burn off calories from extra holiday treats. Since our lake is protected by the surrounding mountains, our weather is often perfect for getting outdoors. We are often 10-15 degrees warmer than the nearby ski area.
  • Watch the sunset behind the Great Smoky Mountains from Inspiration Point near Lambuth Inn.
  • Watch the sun rise from the outdoor deck with your morning coffee at The Terrace Hotel.
  • On New Year's Eve, celebrate the arrival of 2021 with a fireworks show at dusk over the lake (rescheduled from July 4th). Book a room at The Terrace or Lambuth Inn for the best spots to watch.
  • Visit the lakeside Prayer Labyrinth for a few quiet moments of reflection.
