Lake Junaluska invites church choirs to come together for Choir Music Weekend from Oct. 18-20 to broaden their musical repertoires, learn new vocal skills and enjoy time for recreation and fellowship.
During the event, experienced choral leaders will teach eight different anthems and lead workshops on topics from a study of hymns to resources for preschool choirs. A track for handbells is also available.
Choir Music Weekend is especially geared to small and medium-sized choirs, but all are welcome to attend.
The theme for this year’s event, “Music from the Mount,” is inspired by the Sermon on the Mount, which includes the Bible verse Matthew 5:1-2, "Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them." Christ taught with the words “Blessed are,” said Ginger Wyrick, who serves on the Choir Music Weekend leadership team.
“When we gather for Choir Music Weekend, we come up on the mountain to be drawn closer to Jesus, to sit at His feet, and to learn as He teaches us,” said Wyrick.
The weekend is set during peak leaf-looking season in Western North Carolina, and so attendees can enjoy the artistry of nature as they improve their choral knowledge.
A program fee of $75 includes anthem packet, worship and workshops. Lodging packages are available starting at $177 per person with two nights lodging at The Terrace or Lambuth Inn and six meals. Rates are per person and are based on the number of people per room.
