Registration is open for the Lake Junaluska Summer Youth Event that runs concurrently with Western North Carolina Annual Conference to be held Thursday-Sunday, June 20-23.
Each year, youth in grades 6-12 travel to Lake Junaluska from across the Southeastern Jurisdiction for world-class speakers, spiritual growth and fun. Youth of clergy and laity attending the Western North Carolina Annual Conference at Lake Junaluska may attend the June 20-23 youth event for $100 per participant. This rate includes six morning and evening games and worship sessions, four small group meetings, a spiritual growth workshop, evening prayer, a volleyball tournament, a talent show, two lunches, a T-shirt and a nighttime pilgrimage to the Lake Junaluska Cross. This rate does not include lodging.
The event will bring back to Lake Junaluska the Rev. Juan Huertas, pastor of Grace Community United Methodist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, author of “The Sanctuary for Lent” and “The Marks of Hope.”
The Rev. Mitzi Johnson, director of programming at Lake Junaluska, said “Huertas meets young people where they are while also respecting their curiosity and intelligence,” said Johnson. “He dives headfirst into deep theological questions in a way that engages and enthralls.”
Johnson said she is particularly excited about the 2019 Summer Youth Events theme – “Kairos: Your Moment of Opportunity.”
“Kairos refers to an opportune moment in your life where you recognize the ways God is calling you to live, be or become,” said Johnson. “We’re excited to invite Western NC Annual Conference youth to be shaped by God so that God, through them, can shape the world. We want youth who come to step into ‘God’s time’ and to develop the courage to seize those extraordinary moments of opportunity.”
More information about the speaker and band, Abbye West Pates, is available online at www.lakejunaluska.com/summeryouth. To register or request a registration form, call 800-222-4930 or email reservations@lakejunaluska.com.
