Lake Junaluska pool to reopen next week

05/24/2018

LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. — The Lake Junaluska pool is undergoing a renovation, and it is anticipated to open next week.

“Although we are disappointed the pool will not be open in time for Memorial Day weekend, we are excited to open the new and improved pool next week,” said Rob Huckaby, the chief operating officer and general manager of Lake Junaluska. “It was important for us to replaster the pool to improve the experience of the thousands of people who swim there each summer.”

Over the holiday weekend, Lake Junaluska will rope off a section of the lake so guests who are staying in Lake Junaluska lodging and 2018 Summer Activities Pass membership holders can swim in the lake.

“We have purchased 25 new inner tubes that we are launching from the beach area,” Huckaby said. “Membership holders and lodging guests can reserve the inner tubes for free at the recreation hut.”

Kayak, canoe, paddleboard and bellyyak rentals will be available for free to membership holders and lodging guests from the fishing pier to the left of the pool. No fishing will be allowed from that pier over the weekend.

The renovations to the pool began in March, and they were on track to be finished this weekend until issues relating to the weather delayed the final stages.

The renovations include completely replastering the pool. The pool will begin to be filled on Friday and undergo an inspection next week before it reopens.

Lake Junaluska Summer Activities Passes are $200 for a family of up to four people, or $135 for residents of Lake Junaluska. Passes cover Memorial Day through Labor Day.

In addition to admission to the lake this weekend and the pool for the rest of the season, Summer Activities Passes also include a 10 percent dining discount at Lambuth Inn and The Terrace, a 10 percent discount at Junaluska Gifts & Grounds, $1 off boat rentals, half price green fees at the Lake Junaluska Golf Course and free historic boat tours on the Cherokee IV.

To purchase a Summer Activities Pass, visit the Bethea Welcome Center at Lake Junaluska.
