LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. — The Lake Junaluska Singers will perform a “Lakeshore Goes Broadway” dinner theater night on July 17 and July 18. The performance will include music from famous Broadway shows including “Hamilton,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Chicago” and more, as well as a plated three-course meal.
The Lake Junaluska Singers are a 16-voice ensemble, and their legacy at Lake Junaluska goes back over 60 years. The Lakeshore Goes Broadway event began in 2017 and sold out. This year, guests have the opportunity to choose between a Tuesday or Wednesday night performance.
Lake Junaluska Singers Director Mary Huff says she is excited about the range of songs and dances that will be included in the performance.
“The strength and flexibility of our singers as soloists and actors allowed me the flexibility to program heart-wrenching tear jerkers, laugh out loud comedic numbers and love songs remembering the past," said Mary Huff, director of the Lake Junaluska Singers. "The acting, singing and dancing will make you think you’re on Broadway!”
The 2018 Lake Junaluska Singers include 11 returning members who, according to Huff, have had a big effect on the choir’s sound.
“It is particularly exciting working with returning singers because I already know their strengths and weaknesses and can push them further than I have in the past,” said Huff. “After one more year of intense vocal study, the choir sounds more mature. There is a depth to the tone that was not present last year.”
Other famous Broadway shows attendees can expect to hear from include "Evita", "Sunset Boulevard", "The Color Purple" and "Kiss me, Kate".
Both nights of the performance begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Harrell Center Auditorium at Lake Junaluska. Seating is limited. Tickets, which include the meal and performance, are $50 plus tax and can be purchased online at www.lakejunaluska.com/singers, by calling 800-222-4930 or at the Bethea Welcome Center, open daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
