Lake Junaluska, N.C. – Lake Junaluska’s nine-week Summer Activities Program begins June 4 with a schedule designed to build community and spark fun. Programming highlights include evening bonfires, movie nights, nature walks, boat tours and various music events.
“The program provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to build bridges across generations as they enjoy cultural experiences together,” said Lake Junaluska Director of Programming Mitzi Johnson.
The Summer Activities Program started the summer of 2016 because of the support of Bill and Irene Gattis, Lake Junaluska homeowners and seasonal visitors who gave a financial gift to launch the program.
“We have a real passion for community, for people knowing each other,” said Irene. “That happens when you have places to gather, things for people to do and some energy in the place.”
Since then, the program’s three-year success is a direct product of charitable gifts.
Program organizers invite not only those visiting or living at Lake Junaluska to participate in the Summer Activities Program, but all those in the surrounding community to join in as well.
Some events, such as yoga by the lake, lakeside devotions, Monday movies and Thursday bonfires, will occur every week, while others, such as the nature walks and live music, will occur on rotations.
Live music performances will include the Lake Junaluska Singers, the Blue Ridge Big Band and opportunities for musicians to play together during jam sessions.
The program also offers the unique opportunity to enjoy Lake Junaluska after dark for full moon boat tours during the program’s two full moons.
“The invitation is open to all, and they will receive a warm welcome from us,” said Johnson.
