The Rev. Dr. Mark Beeson to preach at Lake Junaluska Summer Worship Series

You don’t have to leave Haywood County to hear world class spiritual speakers. Just head to Lake Junaluska this summer for its annual Summer Worship Series, scheduled for Sundays, June 15 through Aug. 10. The series is open to everyone, but geared to adults.

The Rev. Dr. Mark Beeson will be the guest preacher for the July 20 worship service. Beeson, the Foundation for Evangelism’s 2014 Distinguished Evangelist, has been the Lead Pastor of Granger Community Church in Granger, Ind. since its creation in 1986. Beeson holds a B.S. from Ball State University, an M.Div. from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, and a leadership development from United Theological Seminary in Ohio.

Beeson has been a regular speaker for Rick Warren’s Purpose-Driven Church Conference where he delivered the keynote address to more than 4,500 global pastors participating in the event. Beeson has also provided leadership and training programs for events sponsored by nationally known author and church development consultant John Vaughn. He also inspires, informs, motivates and equips other church leaders to creatively and effectively bring the hope of Jesus to a hurting world, through Granger Community Church sponsored events.

This year’s theme, Grace Upon Grace, is taken from John 1:16: “From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace,” said Jennifer Martin, director of program ministries at Lake Junaluska.

“The beauty of the Summer Worship Series is that it offers a variety of services and world-class speakers, preachers, and the Lake Junaluska Singers, Martin said.

Each Sunday during the Worship Series, Holy Communion will be offered at 9 a.m. in Memorial Chapel, followed by an adult Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. at the Harrell Center, and traditional morning worship at 10:45 a.m. in historic Stuart Auditorium, with guest preachers. Inspirational worship music will be provided by The Lake Junaluska Singers. Childcare is offered at the 10:45 a.m. service for children six months old and older at the Wilson Children’s Complex, 21 Shackford Hall Road.

Each Monday, a Taize Service Of Prayer And Song will be held at 8 p.m. in Memorial Chapel. This service, Martin said, is a contemplative service in a casual atmosphere, modeled after the Taize Community in France, where participants engage in simple repetitive songs, scripture, candlelight, and silence. “It’s a way for people to slow down their fast-paced lives for just a while to contemplate their spiritual world,” Martin said.

Other preachers participating in the 2014 Summer Worship Series are: The Reverend Canon Gina Gilland Campbell, July 27; Dr. Derrick-Lewis Noble, Aug. 3; and Mr. Fred Bahnson, Aug. 10.
