Youth today are pulled in many directions. They are told they have to measure up, be the best, look the best and work the hardest, which tells them that they are not enough. Turn on the news and you will hear stories of youth who are lost, hurting and desperate for love; youth who are turning to everything but God to cope with the challenges of life. What they are not hearing is that God loves them, needs them, and will use them just as they are; that God is the one who will ease the pain and direct their lives if they let him. They are so busy dealing with the challenges of life that they are missing out on all that God has for them right now.
Lake Junaluska is the place set apart from the distractions of daily life that enables youth to unplug, be present, safe and loved. Here they devote time to spiritual growth. Here they mindfully connect to God. Lake Junaluska equips youth to go back to their lives with renewed hearts and minds for Christ, able to handle the challenges they face.
We will continue to offer the best speakers, bands and programming available for our youth. We can do this and more with your help. We are going to be the place that is known for excellence in youth programming. We are going to be the place where churches insist on sending their youth, because they know they will come back changed. We will be known as the place where youth go to become connected to and changed by Christ. We are going to be the best, provide the best and be the best place for youth to connect with God. Our youth will go out and change the world.
It all starts here, with you.

Thanks to charitable gifts, the first round of upgrades has already begun in each room of Mountainview and the Lake Junaluska Apartments—the two lodging buildings most often used for youth. Initial improvements included all new beds, mattresses, bedding and lamps, with additional fresh touches through the end of the year.
Our desire is to work steadily to bring Lake Junaluska's youth lodging offerings up to the quality level of the youth programming, so that the youngest guests experience excellence across the board.
The renovations to youth and young adult housing affects both Lake Junaluska youth programming, and also groups that host events at Lake Junaluska. Lake Junaluska has hosted impactful youth and young adult programming for more than a century. Learn more about youth and young adult events or how to host an event at Lake Junaluska.
The improvements are part of investments made possible from $1.5 million committed as of March 2019 to the revitalization of youth ministry.
Charitable gifts also supported the infrastructural and physical transformation of Shackford Hall, the home of youth events at Lake Junaluska.
Upgrades to the historic building's auditorium include a custom-built stage set, programmable LED lighting and new audio equipment. Lake Junaluska Programming also has improved on-screen visuals, including social media feeds, transitional videos, group games and media, to reinforce worship.
In addition, physical updates to Shackford Hall included the reconstruction of its front and side porches, as well as a fresh coat of paint with vibrant red porches.
The latest undertaking for the youth revitalization efforts includes a significant renovation to the youth dining facility, made possible by charitable giving.
The first phase of renovations to Jones Dining Hall completed in 2017 included installation of insulation, insulated windows, a heating and air-conditioning system, a new ceiling in the main dining room, new flooring in the secondary dining room, new exterior and interior paint, and infrastructure repairs.
The second phase, which is planned for late 2019 to early 2020, includes a deck overlooking the lake, an accessible entrance ramp to the building that also provides access to the deck, landscaping, new accessible bathrooms, new exterior doors, dining space and kitchen upgrades, and mechanical system improvements. At the conclusion of the second phase, the facility will be renamed “York Dining Commons” in honor of Ann and Vann York who have provided leadership-level support for the project.
The third phase of renovation is planned for 2022. Lake Junaluska executives expect efforts to center around the expansion of the kitchen and the development of a food court area.
